[NEWS] 130316 J-ROCK Girl Band, SCANDAL’s Haruna is a fan of SHINee’s Taemin

Back then, the four of them headed to the DVD shop and rented a whole range of “live” concert records to seek inspiration.
Drummer-vocalist Rina was once so motivated by the drummer of English oldies rock band The Who, that she specially bought the same brand of instruments as him. And eventually, SCANDAL decided that it was rock music that appealed the most and the genre that they wanted to explore.

Playing together as a band since 2006, the girls admitted that they “can’t imagine doing anything other than performing as SCANDAL now”. Rather than venturing into different areas of the industry which is a common phenomenon nowadays, they are focused on bringing their music to new and further countries.

It is undeniable that the spotlight on J-Pop and J-Rock has dimmed in recent years due to the overpowering Hallyu wave. Nevertheless, the band thinks that “there is still a lot of good music in Japan” and that more Japanese artistes are starting to step out of the region.

“K-Pop is very global now and we hope that Japanese music will soon be heard and be recognised by other parts of the world as well,” Tomomi explained.

So does SCANDAL listen to K-Pop at all?
Haruna nodded with a smile, “I do. I like SHINee.”

When asked on her favourite member in the popular boy group, the 24-year-old let out a girly laugh and replied, “Taemin!”
