Good team names are hard to find, and before SHINee was SHINee, the group was called something else.
On the March 8 broadcast of KBS’ Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook, SHINee shared a story about its name.
SHINee explained that Lee Soo Man gave the group its name, but before there was SHINee, there was another name that SHINee responded to.
“Before our debut, because our company was SM and there were five of us, we were called SM5,” explained Jonghyun, gathering laughter. “It wasn’t an official name, but whenever someone called SM5, we all came together.”
Yoo Hee Yeol added to the conversation, saying that if there were seven members, they would have been called SM7.
Meanwhile, SHINee is currently in Jakarta to participate in KBS’ Music Bank in Jakarta.
